Obituary

Irene Fischer, age 83, died peacefully on February 2, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire Hospital following a brief stay. Irene had various health problems in her later years. Irene, was born April 30, 1930 in rural Dunn County. She was the second daughter of Stanley and Lila ( Baskin) Pickerign, who were farmers at that time. Irene, graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School, class of 1948. During high school and following graduation she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital for a number of years, ultimately becoming proficient trans-scribing medical recordings from dictaphone. Following the hospital employment she worked as an office assistant to Dr. William Mautz for two years. On September 8, 1956, Irene married Hubert Fischer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eau Claire. Following marriage, Irene continued working as a doctor's assistant for six months and there-after remained a housewife and mother. While her children were in grade school Irene volunteered at Immaculate Conception grade school as a playground supervisor, restoration of the school library as well as assisting with the school lunch program. Irene was known for exceptional baking skills, specifically Christmas Rosettes that she generously shared with the friends and family. She was very dedicated, ambitious and known for her generosity. The immediate surviving members are her husband, Hubert; daughter, Brenda of Minneapolis; son, Mark of Green Bay; brother, William (Nancy) Pickerign of rural Chippewa County; sister, Carol Ringeisen (Joe) of Madison; brothers-in-law, Norm McMahon of Eau Claire, and Ray Helgerson of Chippewa Falls; sister-in-law, Shirley Pickerign of Eau Claire; and grandchildren David, Michael and Katherine Fischer. The immediate family members preceded in death by Irene are her parents; sisters, Maxine McMahon and Lilene Helgerson; brother, Joseph Pickerign; and daughter-in-law, Tanya Fischer. Hubert and Irene have been members of Immaculate Conception Parish during their 57 years of marriage. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire, with Father Don Meuret officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, with a rosary service beginning at 7 p.m., at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Eau Claire.
