Irene C. Reed, 85, of Altoona and formerly of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona. She was born in Little Falls, Minnesota on February 5, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Sarah (Nelson) Reed.\r\nShe served in the U.S. Army during World War II until her honorable discharge in 1945.\r\nIrene received her Masters of Science in Teaching form UW-Eau Claire in 1973. She taught 35 years for the Eau Claire Board of Education at Lincoln Elementary until her retirement in 1982.\r\nIrene is survived by many friends including Rod and Judy Alf of Eau Claire, and Craig and Melissa Frisvold of Hudson.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Earl Reed.\r\nLenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is handling arrangements. Irene's wishes were that her body be donated to UW-Madison Medical School. No services will be held.
