IRVING J. HOLUM SR., 74, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, November 30, 2000 at Syverson Lutheran Home. He was born on August 5, 1926 to Lloyd and Lois (Gillette) Holum in Eau Claire. Irving entered the U.S. Army in November 1943 and served in Central Europe until his discharge in April 1945. He entered the army again on Nov. 1945 and was honoralble discharged in December 1946.Irving married Ardella Breien in Eau Claire on August 7, 1948.\r\nHe retired from Pope and Talbot in 1981, where he had worked for thirty-five years. He lived in Webster after retirement, and moved back to Eau Claire in 1990 to live with his daughter, and later to Rice Lake to be with his son. He was a resident at Lakeside Nursing Home before moving to the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire.\r\nIrving was a member of VFW Post #305, was an official umpire and coached a league team from Jack's Place, and was a 4-H adult leader where he also coached softball teams.\r\nIrving is survived by Lois and her husband Milton Moen Jr. from Eau Claire and their children Milty and his wife Kelly, and Joshua all from Chippewa Falls; Irving Jr,'s children Irving "Skip", and Chett, from Eau Claire and Jennifer from Madison; Sandra K. (Gary Patton) Smith and her daughters Samantha and Jessica all from Eau Claire; Rodney Holum Sr. and his wife Connie and their children, Rodney Jr., Timothy, Anthony "AJ", and Erica all from Rice Lake; seven great grandsons and two great granddaughters; his brothers, Gene (Yvonne) Holum of Orange CA, Daniel (Lynne) Holum of Chippewa Falls, and Jack (Terri) Holum of Tucson, AZ; his sister Claire (Jack) Smith of Altoona; numerous nephews and nieces whom he cherished as his own.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ardella B. Breien; a son Irving J.Holum Jr.; a brother Richard Holum; a great granddaughter Kari R. Holum.\r\nFuneral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2000 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services at the church on Monday.\r\n
