Obituary

Jack Dee Edson, 80, of the Township of Clear Creek, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Luther Hospital. \r\nJack was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 21, 1928, the son of Dewey and Dorothy (Poertner) Edson. He lived in Madison, WI, from the age of 6, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1951, while participating in ROTC for four years. Shortly after graduation he was called into active service in the Korean War where he served as a Military Policeman until 1952. Upon his honorable discharge, he again attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating with his M.D. degree in 1957. He interned at Denver General Hospital. \r\nJack married Jane E. Gregg of Denver, CO on August 27, 1958.\r\nDr. Edson finished a psychiatric residency program at the University of Wisconsin hospital. He then worked at the School for Boys in Wales, WI while having a part-time psychiatric practice in Waukesha, WI. He moved to Eau Claire, WI in 1958, to practice at the Lorenz Institute. Later he worked in the Northwest Psychiatric Clinic. He was a past President of the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association.\r\nJack loved spending time with his family and friends. Camping was Jack&Jane's special joy. He was an avid enthusiast of nature, spending many hours enjoying and working on their tree farm. They were generous in sharing their land both for education&recreation and giving away Christmas trees each year. The Edson's were active in the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association, where Jack was past president, and recipient of their Distinguished Service Award. \r\nJack was a member of the First Congregational United Church Choir for 40 years and music was always a special part of his life. \r\nJack is survived by his wife, Jane; a daughter, Karen (Chad) Wells; a son, Kurt Edson; and a grandson, Chase Wells; and other loving relatives. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gerald.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway Street, Eau Claire with Pastor Mark X. Pirazzini officiating. Private Interment will take place at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. \r\nMemorials are requested to Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association, PO Box 285, Stevens Point, WI 54481; Beaver Creek Reserve, S1 County Road K, Fall Creek, WI 54742; First Congregational United Church of Christ.\r\n
