Obituary

Jack G. Franklin, 79, of Eau Claire died on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Luther Hospital. He was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin on March 12, 1926, the son of Edgar and Eleanor (Schultz) Franklin. \r\nJack entered the U.S. Navy on March 1, 1944, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre on various ships including the mine tender, U.S.S. Cinnamon as a Motor Machinist's Mate Third Class until his honorable discharge on May 9, 1946. Jack received numerous medals for his service including two Bronze Stars.\r\nFollowing the war he attended Loyola University to receive his training in Diesel Mechanics.\r\nJack married Lois A. Larson in Eau Claire on September 2, 1950.\r\nHe worked 33 years for the Eau Claire Water Department both as a Laboratory Technician and Certified Water Plant Operator until his retirement in 1988.\r\nJack was a life member of VFW Post #305, a member of America's National World War II Museum, and the "Ancient Order of the Deep" for having crossed Equator on board the M.V. Day Star.\r\nFollowing retirement, Jack and Lois traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. He loved getting together to share time with his family hunting, fishing and camping.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Lois; a daughter, Kathy Franklin of New Auburn; two sons, Scott (Michele) of Eau Claire and Shaun (Jennifer Dachel) of Mondovi; brother-in-law, Edward Olson of Woodville; two sisters-in-law, Audrey (John) Hotvedt of Amherst Junction and Dolores Larson of Fountain Hills, AZ; and nieces and nephews.\r\nJack was preceded in death by his son, Kurt in 1983; his parents; sister, Lorraine Olson; and brother-in-law, Lyle Larson.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2005, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funereal Home with The Rev. Schulyer H. Van Gorden Sr. officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by VFW Post #305 will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends may call an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.\r\n \r\n
