Obituary

Jacklyn (Lekvin) Borthwick, 79, of Columbia, Maryland and formerly of Eau Claire, died in her sleep on October 30, 2011. She was born on April 11, 1932 in Chippewa Falls to Tom and Eleanor (Carey) Lekvin. The family moved to Chicago in 1937 and then moved back to Eau Claire in 1943. Jackie graduated from Eau Claire High School with the class of 1950. She attended Carroll College for one year, and graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1954. Following graduation, she taught elementary school (4th and 6th grade) in Madison, WI and in California (1954-1960). Jackie married Bruce Borthwick on December 20, 1954. They first moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1965 when Bruce was assigned to the Pentagon. When he decided to retire from the Navy in 1973, they built their dream house in Alexandria, VA. Bruce died 2 days shy of their 49th wedding anniversary (December 18, 2003). Jackie continued to live in their house until 2010, when she reluctantly moved to Columbia, MD to live closer to her son. Throughout Jackie's adult life, she was an active volunteer in her community, and especially in her church (Westminster Presbyterian Church, Alexandria, VA). She was also a tour guide at the Smithsonian Museum of American History during the 1970s. Jackie was an animal lover, with a special fondness for Dalmatians. She was a great baker and one terrific and very devoted grandma. She was a dear friend to many and will be missed by all who know and love her. Jackie is survived by 2 children, Joyce Borthwick of Minneapolis and Paul (Grace Nogan) Borthwick of Glenelg, Maryland; 2 grandchildren, Brian (19) and Stephanie (14) Daub, both of Minneapolis; 2 sisters, Jane Welke of Green Lake, WI and Zoe McAllen of Eau Claire; 3 brothers, Thomas F. Lekvin of Altoona, Patrick A. Lekvin of Eau Claire, and Brent J. Lekvin of Houghton, MI; 5 nieces and 8 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bruce. Family requests memorials be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria, VA 22302. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, with Rev. Eric G. Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire, WI.
