Obituary

JACKSON D. BISHOP, 76, 18194 145th St., Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls. He was born September 5, 1922 in Milwaukee to Harvey and Florence (Porath) Bishop. He married Dolores Marie Schweitzer on June 20, 1942 in Milwaukee.\r\nJackson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the Samuel B. Roberts, which was sunk during the Battle of Samar. Six destroyer escorts were protecting an aircraft carrier against a fleet of Japanese ships that were invading the Philippine Islands. \r\nUntil his retirement, Jackson had worked at Sears Home Improvement Center in Waukesha, and in Eau Claire. \r\nHe was an avid sports and outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, bird watching and gardening.\r\nSurvivors include his son, Larry (Peggy) of Eau Claire; two daughters, Christine (Paul) Weis of Erie, CO, and Diane (John) Vitrano of Milwaukee; five grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Jonas of Phoenix, AZ, and Joan Pritzlaff of Milwaukee.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dolores in 1982.\r\nFuneral services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary F. Sahs officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ladysmith. Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.
