James Lewis Bartig, of Eau Claire entered into eternal life on Thursday, November 30, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital at the age of 82. He was born April 16, 1924, in Eau Claire to William and Dora (Redmond) Bartig. He grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1942. James enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Red Arrow Division. After his honorable discharge he worked as a truck driver in his father's business and later became a driver for Greyhound Bus Lines, where he retired from after 42 plus years of service. On May 1, 1954, he married Lorraine A. Tesch at St. John's Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI. They resided in several cities in Wisconsin before settling in Eau Claire. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lorraine; their three children, Candace (Matthew) Frein of Bloomington, MN, Scott (Melany) Bartig of Eau Claire, and Laurie (Kevin) Braun of Prairie Du Sac; four grand children, William and Suzanna Bartig of Eau Claire, Victoria Frein of Bloomington, MN, and Shauna Braun of Prairie Du Sac; his brother, Harold (Arlene) Bartig of La Crosse; three sisters, Phyllis Bartig, Lois (Herbert) Sakalaucks, and Dorothy (Ray) Isham all of Eau Claire; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in infancy; two nephews and two nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2006, at The Lutheran Church of St. Matthew with Pastor Steven D. Rutter officiating. Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 2nd at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
