James Milo Nyre, 77, of Eau Claire, died peacefully with his loving family at his side on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire Jim was born in Herbster, WI on July 26, 1934. His family moved to Mondovi, where he was baptized and confirmed at Central Lutheran Church. Jim graduated from Mondovi High School with the Class of 1952. He married Louise Leland on March 20, 1954. Jim and Louise raised their family in Altoona. Jim worked at Uniroyal and the Hallie Sanitary District until his retirement. Jim enjoyed serving his church and community. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altoona for 40 years. He loved his church and church family where he held elected offices and was especially active with Lutheran Hour Ministries, Lutheran Laymen League, Lutheran Church Extension Fund and Hmong Ministries, among many other service opportunities. Jim was also a member of the Hallie Optimist Club and a faithful volunteer at Mayo Clinic Health System, Clairemont Campus, and Pedersen Elementary. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Louise; four children, Linda Carlson of Plymouth, MN, Bill (Sandy) Nyre of Owen, Paula (Michael) Bongartz of Maple Grove, MN, and Jodi (Mark) Olson of Plymouth MN. Jim took great pride in his eight grandchildren, Brandon Carlson, Kersta (Davis) Mello, Jennifer (Jason) Heier, Jill (Scott) Brenner, Jon Nyre, Eric (Jenny) Bongartz, Kellen Bongartz, and Micaela Olson; and seven great-grandchildren, Cody and Cierra Fritz, Caleia Heier, Hailey Looker, Brek Gullicksrud, and Josie and Emma Bongartz. He is also survived by four sisters, Lois (Claire) Wrede, Ruth (Ken) Lee, Norma (John) Engel, and Sally (Allen) Gills; special Aunt, Iva Olson and Uncle Verl Kins; sisters-in-law, Elaine Sell, Arlene Christ, Joanne Christ, and Judy (Dick) Sires; and by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Norman Nyre; sister, Susan Broadhurst; son-in-law, Carney Carlson; brothers-in-law, Gail Christ, Bernard Christ, and Gaylord Sell; Aunt and Uncle Fran and Carl Thorson, and Aunt Ada Kins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2245 Hayden Ave., in Altoona, with Daniel Lee Kohn officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery, Town of Washington. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, February 16, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., in Eau Claire and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Health System.
