James L. Rene, 91, of Eau Claire died Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at Luther Hospital. He was born in Chimney Rock, Trempealeau County, on December 23, 1915, the son of Sylfest and Eli (Kenny) Rene.\r\nHe was baptized and confirmed at East Bennet Valley Lutheran Church.\r\nJames married Merle Back on December 18, 1940, in Waukahn, Iowa. She passed away in 1997.\r\nJames ran the home farm until 1946 when he moved to Eau Claire. After several jobs he entered Vocational School at Eau Claire Technical College. Upon his completion he hired out to Electric Home Headquarters as an Electronic Technician where he worked for twenty years. At that time he hired out to Eau Claire Transportation Company as a city bus driver retiring in 1981. \r\nHe enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool, and time spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for over forty years and a long time member of the Eau Claire Moose Lodge #1408.\r\nJames is survived by three grandchildren, Ryan Rene, Shannon Rene, and Jessica Rene all of Eau Claire; a daughter-in-law, Linda Rene of Eau Claire; and special friend Bev Culbert of Eau Claire. \r\nJames was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Merle; his son, Michael; two brothers, Arne Rene Sr. and Neil Rene; four sisters, Anna Twerberg, Gerty Rene, Ella Sather, and Ida Dokkestul.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Carlton Kangas officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.\r\n
