Obituary

James "Whitey" A. Rumphol, 67, of Eau Claire died Sunday, September 26, 2004, at Syverson Lutheran Home following a two year battle with lung cancer. He was born in Eau Claire on February 23, 1937, the son of Lester and Lucille (Myers) Rumphol. He graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School with the class of 1955.\r\nJames married Janet L. Flint on July 5, 1958, in Chippewa Falls.\r\nHe worked as a printer at Eau Claire Printing for over 35 years until his retirement in 2002.\r\nJames loved all sports, especially playing golf with his sons and sons-in-law. He also enjoyed cooking for his family on Sunday afternoons during football season.\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Janet; his five children, Ken, Sheri (Brad) Sorenson, Diana (Alex) Nelson, Jim (Robbie), and Kevin, all of Eau Claire; eleven grandchildren, Brandon and Ellie Rumphol, Alicia, Scott, and Eric Sorenson, Andrea, Justin, and Kyle Nelson, Brittany, Jon, and Brooke Rumphol; five sisters, Lorraine Newberry and Edith (Ken) Eckwright both of Eau Claire, Mary (Clark) Sessions of Eleva, Janet Rumphol of Fall Creek, and Ruthann (Mike) Walworth of Florence, MS; five brothers, Bill (Sherry), Larry (Alberta) and Mike (Lois) all of Chippewa Falls, Don (Jean) and Charles both of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nJames was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Kruschke; and two brothers, Lester and Robert.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2004, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with Father Frank Corradi officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. There will be a sharing time of remembrance at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.\r\nJames' family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Luther Hospital and Syverson Lutheran Home, and a special thanks to his niece, Kathy Grahs.
