Jane O'Neill, 71, of rural Elk Mound passed away Thursday, January 11th, 2018, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born in Eau Claire on October 18, 1946, a daughter of James and Mabel (Severson) O'Neill. Jane had a great love for her girls. Her granddaughters, Bethaney, Hayley, and Jordyn, were very close to her. All of them at one time in their childhood lived and were cared for by her. They continued a close relationship with her, taking care of Jane as her health declined. The death of her daughter, Konnie, forever changed her life and her relationship with Konnie's three beautiful children. Due to her health, and inability to travel, Jane wasn't able to maintain a close relationship with them, but she wanted it known that she loved them dearly and prayed for them every day. Jane grew up in Shawtown and developed a love and dedication for animals, even as a young girl. Her best dog and constant companion for 18 years was Scruffy. Wherever you saw Jane, you also saw Scruffy- including tube floats, motorcycle rides, and every bar on Water Street and in Colfax, never with a collar or leash. She was able to turn her love of animals into a career and successfully ran her own dog boarding kennel for twenty plus years. She cared for many animals throughout the years, but her most recent pets were her two Pekingese dogs, Prim and Chynna, her two Italian Greyhounds, Diamond and Ice, and her Peekapoo, Swiper. She is survived by her daughters, Kelley Wright and Stevi (John) York; 12 grandchildren, Bethaney Wright, Hayley Craker, Joseph Corrigan, Caleb O'Neill, Kieran Bonnin, Shane Dobnick, Kaytlyn Dibble, Jessika Castaneda, Jordyn, Carter, Jacob, and Caroline York; 14 great-grandchildren, Phoenix, X'avior, Abriella, Giovanni, Alora, Lucy, Isabella, Lila, Kobe, Adam, Elliot, Klara, Julian, Lylah.; sisters, Judy (Bill) Goblirsch, Jean (Charlie) Schaefer, Sue Meng; brother, Jimmy (Mau) O'Neill; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Konnie Dobnick; parents, James and Mabel O'Neill; first former husband, John Steinke; second former husband Kim Craker; brother-in-law, Dennis Steinke; and dear friend, Shannon Corrigan. Jane's family would like to thank Dr. Kyle, who cared and guided her through her health issues all of these years, and also a special thanks to her friend and neighbor, Becky Clark, who took on the responsibility of caring for Jane's animals and business while she was hospitalized. An informal gathering, to remember, honor, and pay tribute to Jane will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 1st Ave, Eau Claire, WI. Come with stories, music, and memories to share.
