Jane M. Thorn, 97, of Eau Claire, passed away under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice on Monday, July 7, 2014, at Grace Woodlands Assisted Living in Eau Claire. Jane Marie Thorn, one of thirteen children born to Ryall and Josephine (Green) Caldwell, was born on February 18, 1917, in Eau Claire, WI. She was raised in Eau Claire County and attended Eau Claire Schools, graduating from Eau Claire Senior High School on May 30, 1935. Jane was united in marriage to Sumner "Summy" W. Thorn on June 29, 1938, in Mason City, Iowa. Together they had two children, Michael and Marisue. She worked several years at "Gillette" US Rubber Co. and was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Jane's greatest joy was that of her family. In her early years, Jane loved to cook and bake and always welcomed family and friends to her home. Jane entered Grace Woodlands in March of 2010, and resided there until the time of her death. The family wishes to send a special thanks to the staff at Grace Woodlands for the loving care that she received from them. The family would also like to thank the Southwest Family Alliance Caregivers and St. Joseph's Hospice for their involvement in Jane's care. Jane is survived by her son, Michael (Sonja) of Eau Claire; five granddaughters, Kelly (Reginald) Hiebert of Long Beach CA, Jacqueline (Paul Solberg) Thorn of Stillwater MN, Jamie (Matthew Dodd) Thorn of Seattle, WA, Jodi (Joe) Hallum of Dadeville AL, and Jenni Langenfeld of Eau Claire; grandson, James Woodford of Eau Claire; seven, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Janell (Vincent) Capozzi of Eau Claire, Rita Hendrickson of Eau Claire, and Audrey Pearson of Chippewa Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sumner Thorn; daughter, Marisue Langenfeld; sisters, Evelyn Brack, Bette Newcomb, and Irene Thorn; brothers, Jack Caldwell and Ralph Caldwell. She was further preceded in death by her siblings, John, Donald, Ruth and Cleo Caldwell, whom all died at young ages. Let us celebrate Jane's life in Spirit with great love. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Chapel, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire. Friends may call one hour prior to the service in celebration of her life. Pastor Debra Boynton will be officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in her name, may be directed to the Alzhhimers Association or a memorial of the Donor's choice.
