Obituary

Janice Pauline (Crnkovich) Dwyer, 66, of Madeline Island, WI and formerly Salem, Ohio, died peacefully at her home in Eau Claire on Tuesday, June 24th, 2003 surrounded by family who loved her deeply. \r\nJanice was born in Milwaukee on June 25th, 1936, the daughter of Charles and Stella (Sankoff) Crnkovich. She married J. Phillip Dwyer on June 11th, 1955 in Franklin, Wisconsin. She and her husband lived in many cities in Ohio and Pennsylvania. They decided to settle in Salem, Ohio and there they opened up a Western Auto store. She later opened a boarding home for senior citizens and was highly regarded by the families of those she cared for. She and her husband have owned and operated the Madeline Island Motel since 1987 and for the past eight summers they have resided on the island. \r\nJanice lived her life fully - recognizing she had been given the precious gift of time to watch her children and grandchildren grow following a liver transplant almost 17 years ago. She will be remembered as a strong, independent and resilient woman who was always concerned about the needs and welfare of others over her own. Janice answered to the names of Jan, Mom, Nana, Grandma and Aunt with caring and open arms. She enjoyed entertaining and her children will always remember the many times their friends were welcomed into the Dwyer home. She delighted in each grandchild's special talents, encouraging and nurturing them to do their best. Janice was also known for her delicious cooking and her beautiful flower gardens. She loved to make jelly and crochet things for others. Janice enjoyed traveling and in particular loved the ocean. She gave her family and friends many wonderful memories. They will miss her terribly and will remember her always.\r\nJanice is survived by her husband Phil; her two daughters, Kathleen Dwyer of Nashville, TN, and her children Katrina and Kelsey; Patricia (Richard) Horecki of Eau Claire and their two children, Michael and Emily; and her two sons, John (Lisa) Dwyer of Stillwater, MN, and their four children, Andrew, Cameron, Alex, and Ian; Michael (Annette) Dwyer of Shorewood, IL, and their two children, Thomas and Michael; her sister, Sue Ervin of Springfield, MO and brothers Richard (Diane) Crnkovich of Lanexa, KS, Charles (Barbara) Crnkovich of Kalamazoo, MI, and Tom (Telesa) Crnkovich of Milwaukee, WI; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2003 at the Newman Parish Center, at the Ecumenical Religious Center, 110 Garfield Avenue, Eau Claire with Father George R. Szews officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28th at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Madeline Island, WI with Father Gary Bernhardt officiating. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Newman Parish Center.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Janice's memory to the Dialysis Center at Luther Hospital, 1221Whipple Avenue, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, 54703.
