Obituary

Jeffrey Todd Johnson, 48, of Eau Claire, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System, in Eau Claire. Jeff was born May 18, 1963, to Steve and Janet (Anderson) Johnson in Eau Claire. He graduated from Memorial High School with the Class of 1981. Jeff attended UWEC but left to pursue a career in music. The singer/songwriter's career began in high school with his band "The Movies", then "Tatters" which evolved into "Another Carnival". "Another Carnival", which toured nationally, landed a record deal and had a music video on MTV in the early 1990's. He later formed "Supercell" which had two singles on the Adult Contemporary chart in 2000. As a businessman, he was partners in Side By Side Pro Audio in Eau Claire, during the early 1990's, and then started Mars Musical Adventures in Hudson, WI in 1997. He was also an Audio Engineer which garnered him an Audio Technician position at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. While in Hudson, he founded River Rock Music Festival as a fundraiser for a close friend. The following two years, the funds went to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Minnesota. He brought in many national acts by calling on bands he'd worked with or met throughout his career. Jeff toured nationally with "The Knack" for a decade as their stage manager. He also worked with "The Romantics" and good friend, Tommy TuTone. Jeff was a musical influence, who touched hundreds of people he met through his retail stores, music studios, touring as a musician and as a person, who was indicative of a song he wrote titled "Bigger Than Life". He was a charismatic, generous, smart, talented force of a man who touted he could "Sell ice to an Eskimo", and he was right. He loved his parents, brothers, family and his friends, completely and unconditionally. Undoubtedly the two steadfast passions in Jeff's life were his music and being a father. As Dyllan and Zoe often told him, "You are the greatest Dad ever!" And he was... Jeff is survived by his children, Dyllan and Zoe Johnson; parents, Steve and Janet; brother, Gregory (Peggy) of Eau Claire, Jeremy (Amy) of Madison; niece, Mercedes; nephews, Tre, Sam, and Gus; and also by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Babe and Lil Johnson and Harold and Winnie Anderson; best friend and band-mate, Patrick Leonard Farnand II. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Christ Church Cathedral, 510 S. Farwell St., in Eau Claire, with Father Michael Greene officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. Visitation will be an hour and a half prior to the service at the church.
