Jerome R. Johnson, 89, of Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was under the excellent care of St. Joseph Hospice. Jerry was born in Eau Claire on August 19, 1924, a son of Carl and Doris (Fouser) Johnson. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1942. He was a certified manufacturing engineer of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in which he held many offices. Jerry attended University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and was in the special student program Tool and Die as an apprenctice. Jerry served in the US Navy during World War II on LST 727 through the Pacific and China. He was a 2nd Class Motor Machinist serving from March 24, 1944 until his honorable discharge on February 17, 1946. He married Elizabeth A. "Betty" Theisen on September 14, 1946 at St. Anthony's Church in Loyal, WI. Jerry was employed at Johnson Machine Works and was a plant engineer at Tender Crust Baking Company. He was also an engineer in the Ordinance Division of National Presto Industries. Before retiring, he ran his own business selling industrial equipment. Jerry was an avid golfer. He was also active in the Merry Mixer's Square Dance Club and the Danzarin Dance Club. He also volunteered for the Boy Scouts and at Immaculate Conception Church for many years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church since 1950 and served on the first Parish Council. Jerome is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Suzanne (Steven) Waldusky of Eau Claire and Jean (Steven) Biesterveld of Eagle Lake, MN; two sons, Patrick (Viki) Johnson of Champaign, IL and Paul (Danielle) Johnson of Altoona, WI; nine grandchildren, Laura and Heidi Waldusky, Jason and Sarah Biesterveld, Lauren and Paige Johnson, Paul Jr., William and James Johnson; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Dagney Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael Jerome; two brothers, William and Ronnie; step-father, Howard Ganong; step-mother, Gussie Ganong. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire with Father Donald Meuret officiating. Burial will be in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church.
