Obituary

Jerome G. Lowry, 81, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital. \r\nJerry was born in Eau Claire on May 1, 1929, a son of Warren and Elizabeth (Johnson) Lowry. He graduated from Eau Claire High School with the Class of 1947. \r\nJerry married Joanne Anderson on October 1, 1949.\r\nJerry began working at Meggett Printing Company in 1946. Following Clyde Meggett's death, he became president and part owner of the company. Jerry retired in 1994, after over 45 years in the printing business. \r\nJerry was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ. The church was important to him and over the years he served as Moderator of the church four times, as well as serving on many other committees. \r\nJerry was also a member of all Masonic bodies including Sanctuary Lodge #347, Eau Claire Consistory, and Mehara Shrine.\r\nIn his retirement, Jerry took up the hobby of weaving rugs. He was noted for his creative combination of fabrics. Craft shows became a regular activity that he enjoyed. Jerry loved his hobby farm, being outside and growing vegetables.\r\nJerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joanne; his daughter, Ann Lowry of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Bradley Goodell (Jana and Makai) of Minneapolis, MN, and Breanne Goodell of Washington D.C.; and "daughter of choice" Karen Poortvliet of Minneapolis, MN; as well as other nieces, nephews, and cousins. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Connie Jean; parents; and two brothers. \r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 2010 Moholt Drive in Eau Claire with Rev. Chris Myers, of River Falls United Church of Christ, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Memorials to honor Jerry may be given to Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 2010 Moholt Drive, Eau Claire, WI 54703.
