Obituary

Jerome L. "Jerry, Romie" Miller, age 79, of Altoona, WI, died peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012, in Eau Claire, WI. Jerry was born in Eau Claire, on June 15, 1933, to Frank and Edna (Barney) Miller and graduated from St Patrick's Central High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. Jerry married Penalee "Penny" Kohlhepp in Eau Claire on August 23, 1960. Jerry graduated from University of Arizona with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He later completed a degree in Engineering Management from Michigan Technological University. He was employed at Minneapolis Honeywell from 1960 to 1962. He then worked as a general manager for Northern States Power Company until his retirement in 1998. He was a member Kiwanis, and was a finance director for St. Mary's Catholic School. Jerry loved boats, working outside, sailing, spending time at his extended home in Florida, and airplanes, especially building and flying remote controlled airplanes as a member of Indian Head Country R/C Modelers. He was devoted to his church, serving as Eucharistic Minister, lector and volunteer assistant. With his wife, Penny he served on many National Marriage Encounter teams. Jerry had the ability to accept everything that happened to him in a positive way. He undertook the challenge of living for sixteen years with multiple myeloma, an incurable bone marrow cancer, with a sense of humor and courage, never asking, "why me." Jerry left us with his legacy of faith, strength and smiles. Jerry is survived by his wife, Penny(Kohlhepp); son, Troy(Keri) Miller of Hudson, WI; daughter, Jaci (Tim), Brennan of Austin, MN; two grandsons Max and Alex, brother in-law Sandon (Patricia) of Stuart, FL; nephew, Aaron (Erin) Kohlhepp of Brookfield, WI; and two nieces, Renee Staggs and Rebecca Parsi both of Tucson, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Kay Ann Harmston. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr Delmastro and the staff of Marshfield Cancer Center, and to the Dove Palliative Care staff for their loving care of Jerry and his family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire.
