Jerome "Goon" M. Stone, age 82 of Eau Claire, died peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Care Partners Assisted Living in Eau Claire. He was born in Eau Claire, WI, on April 27, 1931, to Marshall and Marion (Johnson) Stone. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the Class of 1949. He joined the U.S. Army on January 31, 1952 and served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge on December 3, 1953. Jerome married Bernadine Wathke in Wakon, IA on February 15, 1958. He owned and operated Johnson and Huleatt Menswear from the early 1970's until his retirement in 2008. His store was known as a comfortable gathering spot for local customers and friends for a cup of coffee, a few stories, and a quick game of cribbage. He was a very loyal follower of his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Jerome loved traveling, especially long road trips. He enjoyed making others happy and was a great jokester who told many stories and even a "tale or two." Most of all, Jerome loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Water Street Merchants and the American Legion all of Eau Claire. Jerome is survived by his son, Mark (Mary) Stone of Eau Claire; daughter, Jane (Jim) Linstedt of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Sara & Michael Linstedt, and Katie, Rachel & Sam Stone; companion for many years, Nancy Johnson; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine; and his parents. Jerome's family would like to thank Mayo Home Health and Hospice as well as Care Partners Assisted Living staff for all their wonderful care and making him feel like family. Funeral Service will be at 11 AM, Monday, August 19, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, with a visitation beginning at 9 AM. Pastor Nate Aaseng will be officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 53. Memorials are preferred to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W. Lilburn, GA 30047 or to the Mayo Clinic Health System, P.O. Box 4105, Eau Claire WI, 54702.
