Obituary

Jerry F. Thomas, 85, of Eau Claire, died Friday August 5, 2016 at Dove Healthcare – West, Eau Claire. Jerry passed from this world, surrounded by his family, and was greeted by all the friends, family, and pets he loved in life. It's is certain, that he exclaimed, "hot stuff coming through" as he entered Heaven. Jerry was born on July 1, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN a son of Irving and Elizabeth (Brenner) Thomas. Jerry Thomas lived a life of rare quality, one of love, patience, determination, and creative distinction. Jerry married Mary Lunde July 2, 1955 in Eau Claire, WI. Jerry's life was a cornucopia of theater arts, music, performing, endurance athletics and care for his family and his pets and horses. Jerry celebrated two 60 year anniversaries in recent years; one to his wife and companion Mary, and to his broadcasting career in the Chippewa Valley. Jerry was a radio announcer for WBIZ in Eau Claire for 37 years beginning in 1953. He eventually moved to WCWF in Chippewa Falls for another 23 years. Throughout these years, Jerry was an active athlete, running with the Indian Head Track Club and completing numerous races from 5Ks to marathons; including the Boston Marathon. Jerry's acting career was also key in his life. Acting for CVTG, Fanny Hill Dinner Theater, and numerous community plays and festivals. Jerry transformed into Ebenezer Scrooge, Norma Thayer from "On Golden Pond," Santa Clause, and many more characters. As President of the Spring Brook Lutheran Church, Jerry served with dedication for 40 years. He was the major influence of the church's longevity and its ongoing service to God. His love of family and animals which shared his life were especially important to Jerry. His horse Tony, many dogs, including Muffie II, his cat, Greta, warmly greeted him. His daughter-in-law and grandchildren were the sparkle in his eyes and always brought "humor with hope." His wife Mary and he shared many special memories and life events, but it was the simple moments of quiet time between the two of them that they loved. He will always, "Be walking behind you," Mary. And from his son, who admired and loved him. As a young father and his son would read a night time book, a special ending will last in our memories together. "The sun is going down at last, and now it's time to go, but we'll come back- you know we will, 'cause we've enjoyed it so." Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Thomas; son, Steve (Marie) Thomas; grandsons, Joey (Haley) Thomas and Sam Thomas; Sisters Betty Kist and Nancy Rademacher; brother, Jim Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Upton, Mitzi Ungerman, and Dorothy Miller; and brother, John Thomas The Thomas family would like to thank the entire staff at Dove Healthcare West.
