Walters, formerly of Eau Claire, died on September 20, 2011, at\r\nAttic Angels Place, Middleton, WI.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nJewell Caroline (Mickelson) Walters was born on January\r\n5, 1915, in Eau Claire to Clara (Anderson) Mickelson and\r\nEdward Mickelson. She was baptized at Grace Lutheran in 1915 and confirmed\r\nthere in 1930. She attended the Little Red School House, was a graduate of\r\nEau Claire High School and earned a two year\r\ndegree in elementary education from Eau Claire Teacher's College. She\r\ncontinued taking classes and received her Bachelors Degree in 1960.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOn June 4, 1938, she married John Walters and they were\r\nmarried for 65 years until his death in 2003.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nJewell worked at the Eau Claire\r\nOrthopedic School,\r\ntaught at Fairchild and then in Eau Claire at Randall School. She later taught in the Town of Washington and in Eau Claire\r\nat Lowes Creek\r\nSchool and Boyd School.\r\nShe was active at Grace\r\n Lutheran Church\r\nwhere she was a Sunday School Superintendent, Circle Chairman, and\r\nPresident of the\r\n\r\nReading Club. She was also a charter member of PEO,\r\nChapter CH and was a member of Nordmann's Forbundet.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nShe liked to read and knit. She and John enjoyed their\r\nsummer home on Whitefish Lake and their winter home in Haines City, Florida. They\r\nalso traveled to all fifty states and to Norway\r\nand Germany,\r\nthe homes of their ancestors.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, John; her sisters,\r\nWinifred Anderson and Dorothy Brown; her brother, Aaron Mickelson; and her\r\nsister-in-law, Kay (Mickelson) Stucky.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nShe is survived by her daughter, Jane (Robert) Smith of\r\nMadison; three grandchildren, David Smith of Madison, Stephen (Carrie) Smith\r\nof Colorado Springs, and Julia (Colin) Stone of Denver; and eight\r\ngreat-grandchildren, Jacob, Michael and Nicole Smith of Madison, Sawyer, Saxon\r\nand Summit Smith of Colorado Springs and Calvin and Maya Stone of Denver. She\r\nis also survived by her sister, Janet (Charles) Hoover of Little Rock; and her\r\nbrother, Don (Mary) Mickelson of Eau Claire and many wonderful nieces and\r\nnephews.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nFuneral Service will be at 11a.m. Monday, September 26,\r\n2011, at Grace Lutheran Church,\r\n202 West Grand Avenue,\r\n Eau Claire, with Pastor David\r\nIrgens officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.\r\nInterment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery,\r\ntown of Washington.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to Grace Lutheran\r\n Church, The U.W. Eau\r\nClaire Foundation (John and Jewell Walters Scholarship Fund) or to the\r\ndonor's choice.
