Joan L. George, age 81, formerly of Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Oakwood Hills Retirement Community, surrounded by her family. Joan was born on October 9, 1936, in Detroit, MI, to the late Robert and Harriet (Henderson) Conner. She graduated from Redford High School in Detroit. After graduation, Joan and her family moved to Cleveland, OH. She worked as a secretary when she met her husband, Richard J. George, Sr. and they soon married on November 25, 1961. After getting married, they moved to Woodridge, IL, to begin a family of their own. Joan took pride in being a young mother who was active in her community. She started a stock club, worked on a local office political campaign, and joined with her husband to start a rubber stamp business, In Store Supplies. This led to her success in developing the art stamp division of Stewart Superior in Atlanta, GA. Joan enjoyed art stamping, puzzling and cross stitching in her spare time. Joan was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Joan was met with open arms by her husband, Richard and their son, Steven George, in heaven. She is survived by her children, Susan (Javis) Kienbaum of Merrill, WI, Richard J. (Patricia) George, Jr. of Great Falls, MT, and Karen (Scott) Meade of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren, Jason (Erin) Kienbaum, Shannon (Andy) Henneman, Amanda (Brady Graff) George, Richard J. "RJ" George III, Leah (Cody) Kisner, Jonathan Meade, Rachel Meade; brothers, Jack (Mary Bishop) Conner and Robert (Judith) Conner; nieces, Jennifer Moeck, Whitney Conner, Heather Conner, and Amy McGuire. Her family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice, Recover Care, and Oakwood Hills Retirement Community for their loving care. Private services will be held. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation services is assisting her family.
