Joan L. Halvorsen, 68, of Eau Claire, passed away Monday, October 2, 2006, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire following a battle with cancer.\r\nShe was born on October 24, 1937 in Eau Claire, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Kolstad) Johnson. Joan graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1955.\r\nShe worked as a meat wrapper for Randall's Grocery Store for several years.\r\nJoan married Donald N Halvorsen on August 31, 1963, in Wabasha, MN. Together they raised a daughter, Lori.\r\nAmong her favorite hobbies were casino gambling and sitting on her patio. She also was a dedicated volunteer at Oakwood Villa for six years. She could always be found helping residents play BINGO. Joan was a very caring person and always wanted to be there to help if she could.\r\nJoan is survived by her husband, Don; a daughter, Lori (Randy) Ivkovich of Eau Claire; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ivkovich; a sister, Sonja (Tom) Backstrom of Augusta; a brother, Gerald (Jeanie) Johnson of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Justin Ivkovich; and a brother, Vernon Johnson.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2006, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Carlton Kangas officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at church. Burial will be in Lutheran Church Cemetery, Eau Claire.
