Joan L. Moores, 89, of Eau Claire passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire, WI. Joan was born to Hattie (Steenberg) and Charles Leo Burgess on October 14, 1924, at Luther hospital in Eau Claire. She grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1942, after which she worked for L.G. Arnold Inc. and the Eau Claire Board of Education. Joan married Robert Moores at Grace Lutheran church on July 20, 1947. She was a lifelong, faithful member of G.L.C and enjoyed many of their activities including; reading club, Friendship club and women's circle. Joan and Bob had one son, Steve, with whom she stayed home with and enjoyed the "best 10 years of my life" raising him. Joan especially enjoyed traveling, dancing, golfing, socializing and attending the great-grandkids sporting events. She spent 24 years working for the State of WI, retiring in 1982. Joan was honored in 1946 to be chosen as Miss Eau Claire to represent the City of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Joan is survived by her son, Steve (Cindy) Moores; granddaughters, Kristie (Steve) Matthaei and Tracy Krogman, great-grandson, Teagan Zien; great-granddaughters, Kortnie, Tayler, Maddie and Kennie Matthaei; along with grand dogs, Nellie, Bennett and Lucie. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and other friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; and sisters, Virginia Jaworski and Marjorie Olson. The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Willowbrook, Dove West Palliative Care and Mayo Hospice for their wonderful care. A funeral service will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., in Eau Claire with Pastor David J. Irgens officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. Joan, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, we love you. You will be missed!
