John R. "Jack" Bernhagen, 81, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire, with his family by his side.He was born in Junction City, WI, on December 31, 1926, the son of Leonard and Sophia (Hardina) Bernhagen. He graduated from Thorp High School.John married Carmen R. Steahr on January 25, 1983, in Chippewa Falls.He worked for over 20 years as office manager at the Eau Claire County Farm Nursing Home until his retirement. Fishing was his favorite pastime, along with playing cards and casino trips. He is survived by his wife, Carmen; niece, Diane (David) Boetcher, of Eau Claire; nephew, Everett (Marty) Blakely Jr. of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, and Dean Steahr of Ashland, NB; sister-in-law, Helene Bernhagen of Houston, TX; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Darrel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Meta Trebus Memorial Chapel at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire with Pastor Debra Boynton officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the Syverson Home. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Chippewa Falls. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.
