Obituary

John L. Culbert, 85, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, after a long illness. He was born in Eau Claire on June 17, 1925, the son of Leo V. and Helen (Weber) Culbert, the fifth eldest of seven children.\r\nJohn attended Sacred Heart School and Eau Claire Senior High School. \r\nJohn was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II., serving in the South Pacific. \r\nJohn loved his family, country and pop music, lifting weights, and in his early years enjoyed fishing and camping with his brother, Jim, and friends. In his later years, John cut hair and owned and managed John's Hair Salon on Franklin Street. John is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Gleason (friend, Richard Morley) of Bradenton, FL; sister-in-law, Beverly Culbert; and several nieces and nephews.\r\nJohn was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Leona Burns and Dorothy Abel, and Gloria Culbert; two brothers, James and Edward.\r\nMemorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Eau Claire, with military graveside honors conducted by VFW Post 305. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass, Friday, at the church.
