John Russell Dahl, 48, of Eau Claire died on Friday, July 20, 2012, at Sacred Heart Hospital from complications of a seizure. John was born on November 3, 1963, in Black River Falls to Otis and Zelma (Johnston) Dahl. The family moved to Eau Claire in 1965. John attended Lincoln Elementary, Delong Middle and North High Schools. He was confirmed at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. He enjoyed playing hockey and traveling with the Eau Claire Drum and Bugle Corp. He attended UW-River Falls until he enlisted in the US Army, completing basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and advanced training at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs. His Armor unit was sent to Erlangen, Germany, where he resided until being deployed to Iraq where he fought in the Gulf War. After the war, he was stationed at Minot, ND Air Force Base where he worked as a recruiter. It was there that his daughter, Jessica Marie, was born. After serving for 14 years, they moved back to Eau Claire. John was an avid Packer and Badger fan. John is survived by his daughter, Jessica Dahl of Fall Creek; step-daughter, Kelce Gold of Eau Claire; parents, Otis and Zelma Dahl of Eau Claire; sister, Sharon (Joel) Radke of Menomonie; brothers, Gordon (Carol) Dahl of Burlington, WA and Mike (Jackie) Dahl of Eau Claire; nephews, Mark (Lori) Radke, Craig Radke, Andrew and Erik Dahl; nieces, Libbie and Aubree Dahl; great niece and great-nephew, Mikenna and Travis Radke; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thorvold and Mabel Dahl and Lydia Johnston. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Sacred Heart for their care and support. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar St. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Donald Wisner officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery in the Town of Cleveland, WI.
