Obituary

John E. Farrell, 90, of Eau Claire died Friday, August 27, 2004 at Dove Healthcare. He was born in Eau Claire on February 11, 1914, the son of Edward and Catherine (Conley) Farrell. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1942, served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and was honorably discharged in November 1945.\r\nJohn married Helen M. Hauger in Eau Claire on November 3, 1945.\r\nHe was active in the community serving as a member of the Eau Claire County Board representing the 5th district for 20 years, and served on the executive board of Shelter for the Handicapped for 6 years. He was a life member of VFW Post #305 and 59 year member of American Legion Post #53.\r\nJohn worked in retail sales in Eau Claire for many years, retiring as sales manager with Career Development Center.\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Kathryn (Steve) Christenson and Mary (David) Schlageter both of Eau Claire; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) DesForge, John McCrackin and Courtney Christenson (Brock Haines); five great granddaughters, Kaitlin, Gabriella, Grace, McKenzi and Taylor; nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas; and two sisters, Helen and Angeline Farrell.\r\nMass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside rites. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. public prayer service Monday at the funeral home.
