Obituary

JOHN "JACK" W. FASCHING, 82, of 1410 Hoover Ave., died peacefully Friday, October 8, 1999 at his home. He was born in Eau Claire on August 22, 1917 to John and Clara (Thorson) Fasching. Jack married Ruth W. Larson on April 23, 1948 at St Mary's Church in Altoona. \r\nHe served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942-1945 in the Pacific Theatre with the 33rd Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron. Jack was an inspector at Uniroyal for thirty-eight years until retiring in 1981. He also worked part time as a repairman at Electrolux for many years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an usher for forty years and a volunteer at the Chippewa Valley Museum for about 15 years.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Ruth; three sons, Tim of Fort Collins, Co, Stephen (Jill) of Stevens Point; and Peter (Sue) of Eau Claire; a daughter, Patricia (Rich) Thwaits of Merrill; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Nick, Alex, Kris, Brittany, Alison, Meggan, Ben, and Ana; a niece, Susan (Don) Kahon of Medford; and a nephew, Bill (Gayle) Fasching of Viroqua.\r\nHis parents; a brother, Richard; and a sister, Mary, preceded him in death.\r\nThe world was a better place because our Dad was here. He was a devoted husband, loving Dad and Grandpa. Everyone knew that Jack could "fix anything" and generously shared his talents with everyone. He was a proud Norwegian who always saw the good things in life and always enjoyed being with his family, relatives and friends. He will be missed and remembered every day.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Eugene Klink officiating. Burial will be in Scared Heart Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday at the funeral home.\r\nThe family requests that memorials are directed to the Chippewa Valley Museum or Northwest Wisconsin Home Care Hospice Program.
