John "Jack" H. Smith, 87, of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his residence. Jack was born on June 1, 1926, to AC Frank and Diana (Miller) Smith in Eau Claire. He was a 1944 graduate of Eau Claire Senior High School. Jack married Doris E. Miles in Eau Claire on November 20, 1948, and were happily married for 48 years. Jack worked at Fabco Equipment, in the sales and service department for 41 years, until his retirement in 1989. Jack loved square dancing, golf and spending time at the lake with family, Don and Jean Wellsandt, and many friends. He especially enjoyed hunting with his son, Pat, grandsons, and the crew at Cabin #1 in Winter, WI. Jack served as a Merchant Marine during World War II. Jack was an active member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church, where he volunteered his time. He was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1408, Knights of Columbus Council #1257, American Legion Post 53. Jack is survived by his a son, Pat (Cathy) Smith of Eau Claire; two daughters, Carol Harrison of Eau Claire and Ann (Fred) Siebenshuh of Elk Mound; nine grandchildren, Amy Seipel, Brooks, Rob and Brian Harrison, Laura Canfield, Mike Siebenshuh, and Andrea Wilkins, Josh and Jake Smith; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Gloria) Smith of Stevens Point, WI; and a sister, Diane Heitkamp of Waterloo, IA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris; parents; and son-in-law, Richard Harrison; a brother, Earl Smith; and two sisters, Betty Miles and Joane Anders. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2013, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St. in Eau Claire with Father Alan Guanella officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 53. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, with a Public Prayer Vigil beginning at 4:30 p.m. and also one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
