John "Jack" W. Tannler, 80, of Eau Claire died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Wissota Health and Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls, WI. He was born in Cadott, WI on May 6, 1927, son of Arnold and Amelia (Berg) Tannler.\r\nHe graduated from Cadott High School with the class of 1945, and had an interest in playing sports, especially basketball.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Navy from May 25, 1945, until his honorable discharge on August 9, 1946.\r\nJack married LaVonne I. Chamberlain on May 19, 1956, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.\r\nJack worked 35 years for the U.S. Postal Service retiring as a postal clerk at the Eau Claire Post Office in 1990. He was a long time member of the U.S. Postal Workers Union.\r\nHe was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, involved in various church groups including the Men's 3's, and also served as a church usher.\r\nJack had a life long interest in cars, and enjoyed driving cars back for local dealers from car auctions. \r\nHe will be remembered as one who was always willing to help others, and he enjoyed visiting with family and friends.\r\nJack is survived by his son, Steve (Cheri) Tannler of Chippewa Falls; daughter, Tammy Tannler of Eau Claire; sister, Jean (Donald) Knitter of Cadott; sister-in-law, Evie Tannler of Cadott; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Adeline Lawver of Madison, WI.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaVonne in 2000; his brother, Bob Tannler; brother-in-law, Warren Chamberlain; and sister-in-law, Ruth Chamberlain.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington where V.F.W. Post # 305 will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.\r\nFamily suggests memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W.
