Obituary

John George Lohff, age 78, of Eau Claire passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.John was born on Jan. 12, 1930, in Kenosha, WI to Cortland and Martha (Splinter) Lohff. He had one sister, Marion, and one brother, Glenn. He graduated from Marinette High School in June 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in March 1949 where he served in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge in 1952, John went to work for the bell system as a telephone installer. John loved downhill skiing and met his wife Alice G. Aslakson at Telemark Ski Resort in Cable, WI. They were married October 28, 1967, and had one daughter, Christine. John retired from the telephone company in 1983 and went to work for Cray Research. After 8 years with the company, John retired again in 1992. During his retirement years, John volunteered with the Pioneer Group doing "Talking Books" for the vision challenged. John also enjoyed fishing, cross country skiing, skating, and going to see his grandchildren.John will be greatly missed by his wife, Alice; daughter, Christine (Shad) Jeseritz of Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren Andrew, Luke, and Rachel; a sister, Marion of New London, WI; sister-in-law, Pat Lohff of Marinette; five nephews, Mike, Pete, Cort, Tom, and Jim; and two nieces, Carol and Diane; and by numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Glenn.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Luther Hospital and the Clairemont Nursing Home.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services, Tuesday, at Church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette, WI. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.Memorials are preferred to the music department or the "Just Because" Organization at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar Street, Eau Claire, WI 54703.
