Obituary

John Eugene "Gene" Quinlan, 87, of 3317 Garner St., Eau Claire died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born on January 9, 1915 in Eau Claire to Dennis and Esther (Powers) Quinlan. He graduated from McDonell Central High School in 1932. \r\nIn his teens he joined the Civil Conservation Corps and served in Northern Wisconsin.\r\nOn August 23, 1942, Gene married Mabel Erickson in Chippewa Falls. He served in the Armed Forces in the South Pacific during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Gene worked in the grocery business for A&P stores in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire and Super Value in Cornell until his retirement in 1979. \r\nHe was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #305 and American Legion Post #53.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Mabel; two daughters, Mary (Dennis) Froehlich and Jane (Allen) Brun; three grandchildren, Kathryn and Lisa Froehlich, and Michael Brun; sister-in-law, LaVina Christianson all of Eau Claire; niece Christine (Harley) Franz of Chippewa Falls and a nephew, John Hoff of Minneapolis.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Mary Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends and family may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the church.
