Obituary

Joseph "Joe" L. Carey, 55, of Eau Claire died Sunday, August 18, 2002 at Luther Hospital. He was born in Menomonie on March 24, 1947, the son of LeRoy and Angeline (Steies) Carey. His family moved to Eau Claire where he graduated from Memorial High School with the class of 1964.\r\nJoe married Myrna R. Huff on July 17, 1965 in Eau Claire. He worked for 37 years as a crane operator for Max Phillips and Sons. He also served in the National Guard for six years.\r\nHe was an active member of Jacob's Well, where he directed Habitat for Humanity projects.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Myrna; four sons, Brad (Susanne) of Eau Claire, Brett (Mary) of Hudson, Bryan (Teri) of Medford and Bruce (Kristine) of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren, Scott, Samantha, Amanda, Julia, Emily, Mackenzie, Alison and Andrew; his mother, Angeline of Menomonie; four brothers, LeRoy (Bev) of Baldwin, Eugene (Judy) of Waukesha, Michael (Sue) of Mondovi and Pat of Durand; three sisters, Margaret (Emery) Johnson of Altoona, Phyllis (Gene) Marte of LeSueur, MN and Roxanne of Menomonie; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Gerald and Wayne.\r\nJoe was a loving and dedicated father, always ready to lend a hand. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons, woodworking and spending time with his loving grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and always showed a smile.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Paul A. Berthiaume officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services at the church.
