Obituary

Joseph Stanley Deering Jr., 74, of Eau Claire, bravely gave up his fight with cancer on November 6, 2012. He was surrounded with love by family and friends. Joseph was born at home in Chicago, IL, on January 21, 1938. He was the son of Joseph Stanley Sr. and Helen Sophia Pawula Derengowki both of Chicago, IL. He served five years in the US Navy as a fire control technician. He was stationed aboard the USS Vandivier (DER 540), a radar picket ship of Escort Squadron 18 and USS Coney (DDE 508). His survivors include his partner, Darlene Welciek; three sons, Tom (Medha), Joe (Kathy), John (Wendy); daughter, Felicia (Michael) Rovenolt; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Chrissy), Stefany (Matt) Metzdorf, Amanda, Allyson, Lydia, Grace Rovenolt, Faith Rovenolt, and Felicia; one great-grandchild, Destiny Metzdorf; Darlene's children, Terry Sue (Tim) Betts and Allen (Velma); grandchildren, Caleb Betts, Christopher Betts, Carolyn Betts, Kyra, and Kyle; and friend, Vicki Deering; mother of Nathan and Amanda. Joseph is also survived by sister, Margaret (Cliff) Albright and family. Joseph was predeceased by his parents and widowed by Felicia Cartonio Deering. Joseph was an avid traveler, woodworker, gardener and historical collector. He was especially philanthropic with all things military or patriotic. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to The Regional Cancer Center, Sacred Heart Hospital, Critical Care Staff and Respiratory Therapy Staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the USO of Wisconsin, 750 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive, Suite 303, Milwaukee WI, 53202. A Memorial Mass will be said in Joseph's name at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the Father Christopher Chapel at Sacred Heart Hospital, 900 West Clairemont Avenue with Monsignor Edmund Klimek officiating. Burial at Sea will be held at a later date.
