Joseph "Joe" R. Meyer, 60, of Eau Claire died Friday, October 31, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital surrounded by his family, and loving aunt Mickey. He was born in Eau Claire on December 26, 1947, a son of Roland and Geraldine (Mason) Meyer.\r\nHe graduated from North High School with the class of 1966.\r\nJoe entered the U.S. Navy on August 3, 1967. He served in both Korea and Vietnam, and awards included Navy Achievement Medal and Navy Unit Commendation. He was honorably discharged on June 4, 1971.\r\nHe worked as a bartender in the Eau Claire area for several years, and at Huebsch Services for 22 years until retiring due to illness.\r\nJoe enjoyed reading, watching horror movies, crossword puzzles, cross stitch, and macramé. \r\nJoe is survived by his daughter, Jamie Meyer of Eau Claire; five sisters, Cindy (Dave) Dwyer of Chippewa Falls; Barb Meyer of Delavan; Bev Meyer, Mary Meyer and Patti Salazar all of Eau Claire; two brothers, Steve (Linda) Meyer of Rhinelander and Rick (Kathleen) Meyer of New Bern, NC; and many nieces and nephews. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roland A. Meyer Jr.; and a nephew Skeeter.\r\nA celebration of Joe's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home with Father Edmund Klimek officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside honors.
