Obituary

JOSEPH A. SOSNOUSKI JR., 81, of 818 Forest Street, died Sunday, May 30, 1999 at Dove Health Care Center. He was born July 28, 1917 in Moline, Illinois to Joseph and Eva (Galinis) Sosnouski. Joe attended Moline High School where he graduated with honors and was also an outstanding athlete. Upon graduation he was drafted by the Chicago Cub's organization and later played in the Northern League with the Eau Claire Bears. Joe met Caryel W. Phillips while playing for the Bears and they married on August 31, 1938 in Eau Claire. He was employed at Uniroyal where he was president of the Local #19 United Rubber Workers Union from 1974 to his retirement in 1983. He had served as a member of the Eau Claire County Board and North River Front Neighborhood Assoc. \r\nJoe had a love for baseball and played on many area teams. He also was instrumental in organizing the Eau Claire Little League. He was an avid Cavalier fan where he could be seen in his lawn chair along firstbase.\r\nSurvivors include two daughters, Barbara Johnston of Oceanside, CA, and Rose (Doug) LaPoint of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, Joe Girolamo of Oceanside, CA, Tony Girolamo of Henderson, NV, Dena Girolamo of Reno, NV, Scott (Patty) LaPoint of Eau Claire, and Jill (Scott) Woodington of Glenwood City; five great-grandchildren; Zachery Girolamo, Amanda Woodington, Nathaniel, Derrick and Nicholas LaPoint; a brother, Stan (Dorothy) Sosnouski and a sister, Ann Torpi both of Moline, IL; many nieces and nephews. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Caryel in 1990; and a grandson, Mike Wold.\r\nMemorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Father Edmund Klimek officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the town of Washington. Friends may call an hour prior to services on Wednesday.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to "The Healing Place" at Sacred Heart Hospital, 900 W. Clairemont Ave. Eau Claire, WI, 54701
