Josephine E. Johnson, 88, of Altoona died Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Luther Hospital. She was born in German Valley near Mondovi, Wisconsin on December 17, 1917, the daughter of Alvin and Mary (Komro) Holstein. \r\nJosephine married Lawrence E. Johnson in St. Charles, Missouri on April 6, 1942.\r\nThey lived forty years in Eau Claire then moved to Chetek in 1978, living there for five years. Lawrence died in 1999.\r\nJosephine worked more than twenty-seven years as a machine operator making calendars at Shedd-Brown Manufacturing until retiring in 1978.\r\nShe was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the W/ELCA Naomi-RuthCircle. She also served as an usher, and as a quilter for W/ELCA. Josephine was also a board member and former volunteer for Senior Citizen's meals. \r\nJosephine is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Roger "Rock") Schulte of Altoona; two grandchildren, Brent (Leticia) Schulte of Alpharetta, GA, and Dawn (Jon) Schwieters of Eau Claire; five great-grandchildren, Kurt and Brock Schwieters, and Ryan, Brianna and Emily Schulte; two step-great granddaughters, Auburn Smith and Madison Gelao; two brothers, Alvin and Merle Holstein of Eau Claire; and two sisters, Verena Westberg of Eau Claire and Loraine McCann of Anchorage, Alaska.\r\nShe was also preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Kurt Schulte; five brothers, William, Melvin, Milton, Donald, and Norman Holstein; and four sisters, Ethel Machmeier, Norma Goodell, Phyliss Taylor and Leona Brantner.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2006, at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas W. Bryan officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Family and friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church.\r\n
