Obituary

Joyce Anna Louise Farwell, age 75, of Eau Claire died Friday, January 23, 2009, at Luther Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born in Eau Claire on January 20, 1934 the daughter of John and Alma (Gardow) Juroszek.\r\nJoyce attended Eau Claire public schools graduating from Eau Claire Senior High with the class of "52". She married John L. Farwell on John's birthday, August 3, 1952, in Eau Claire at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Together they had two sons, John Jr. and James.\r\nJoyce worked For the U.S. Rubber Co. (Uniroyal) and was president of the "Royaleers". She later worked as a secretary for Oak Park Dairy and the E.O. Johnson Co. both in Eau Claire. After retirement, she and John volunteered for the St. Francis food pantry. Joyce was instrumental in planning and executing the reunions for her high school class. After John's death, September 10, 2006, Joyce continued to volunteer for Grace Lutheran Church distributing bulletins to hospital bound members.\r\nJoyce, a woman of great faith, and lover of "hugs" was the ultimate caregiver, cooking meals and making treats for her family. She saw to it that her "older" friends and neighbors always got a piece of pie or loaf of banana bread. You couldn't have had a better mother, grandmother or great grandmother. She never missed a game, concert or school program that her children, grand children, or great grandchildren were involved in. And yes.... there were pictures. When somebody was down or had suffered a loss, Joyce always had a card or inspirational passage she would send along in an effort to ease their pain. She taught us that "thanks" was always in order when someone gave to you, and that a heartfelt "I'm sorry" was in order when it was needed. She showed us that when you "give" it seems to come back to you multiplied in many ways. There wasn't a stray cat or wild bird that didn't get a free lunch out of her front door at one time or another.\r\nMom, we are thankful for all the time we had together, the lessons of life you taught, and for the unconditional love you gave. We only hope that these things we can pass onto our future generations so that they may live and love as you taught us to. It was a good ride....we'll see you on the other side.\r\nJoyce was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Donald, and a sister, Arlene Bartig.\r\nSurvivors include two sons. John Jr. (Susan) of Eau Claire and James (Carol) of Woodbury, MN; four grand children, Patti (Sam) Barby and Jamie (Chad) Mowl both of Eau Claire, and Lisa and James Farwell of Woodbury MN; five great grand children Jacob and Abby Mowl and Taylor, Sam and Lucas Barby; a sister, Beverly (Felix) Jungerburg of Eau Claire; as well as several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. She will be missed by her "lunch buddy's" Tootie, Pat, Faye, and Marlys.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave, Eau Claire with Pastor Rolf A. Nestigen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral home and one hour prior to services, Tuesday, at the church. \r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703, or the donors choice.\r\n
