Juel M. Rhude, 91, of Elk Mound, died Thursday, November 29, 2001 at Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. He was born November 27, 1910 to Martin and Julia (Olson) Rhude in the town of Elk Mound. He was baptized and confirmed in the Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church in the Norwegian language. Juel entered high school in 1925 at Elk Mound, went 2 ½ years, skipped a year and then entered Colfax High School graduating in 1930. He went one year to Eau Claire Normal School. \r\nHe hitched a ride to North Dakota to see friends who kept telling him to come to the Red River Valley where there was work. He worked five seasons there as a "bridge carpenter" for the Jardine Bridge Company\r\nHe returned to Wisconsin and ran the home farm for a period of time but returned to the Red River Valley, where he married Ruby Pearl Johnson of Argusville, ND on November 22, 1938. They returned to farm in the Town of Elk Mound until 1976. He began his carpentry business in 1958 after the Colfax tornado and continued to build until 1976.\r\nThese past years Juel resided in an apartment on the home farm where family, friends, and grand-kids came to see him. He was a resident at Dunn County Health Care Center since June of 2001.\r\nHe thanked the Lord for an interesting life and for letting him live as long as he did.\r\nSurvivors include a son, Rodney (Bev) of Elk Mound and their two children, David (Shannon) and their daughter, Emi, Patrick (Lanette) and children, Austin and Alexis; his daughter, Janine (Peter) Wildes and their two children, Michaela and Andrea all of Hudson; daughter-in-law, Jeannette Rhude of Elk Mound and her four children, Jeff (Jill) and their children, Gregory, Matthew and Lydia Rhude of Plymouth, WI, Randy (Ronica) and their children Gracey and Nicholas Rhude of Arlington, TX, Jennifer Rhude of Madison, and Renae (Brian) Knudson of Corcoran, MN.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby in 1979, son, Julian in 1987, his parents, seven brothers, Johan, Henry, George, John , Willam, A. Lewis, and Albert; and two sisters, Minnie Johnson and Ella Mahla\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2001 at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church with Pastor Hal A. Schroetter officiating. Burial will be in Big Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the Church.
