Obituary

Juel V. Stoner, 80, of Eau Claire died Friday, February 23, 2007, at Luther Hospital. He was born on his grandparent's farm near Ridgeland, Wisconsin on May 27, 1926, a son of Clarence and Julia (Paulson) Stoner.\r\nJuel enter the U.S. Army in 1950, serving in the Honor Guard at Fort Myer in Arlington, VA until 1951. He then served in the infantry in the Korea Conflict until August of 1952, receiving the Purple Heart. \r\nJuel married Arla M. Moe at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on September 6, 1951.\r\nWhen their boys were young many weekends and vacations were spent up north camping. They later purchased a cottage on Tainter Lake in Menomonie and continued to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. Juel also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, and was a Badger and Packer fan.\r\nHe worked 32 years at Pope and Talbot paper mill in Eau Claire, retiring as a Millwright there in 1984.\r\nHe was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he enjoyed serving as a greeter at Saturday evening services. He was a life member of VFW Post #305 and the D.A.V.\r\nJuel is survived by his wife, Arla; two sons, Michael (Lisa) Stoner of Eleva and Randy (Cheryl) Stoner of Eau Claire; six grandchildren, Cortney, Kyle, Kevin and Cory Stoner, Jeffery and Kattie Hanson; three sisters-in-law Elinor "Kay" Stoner of Eau Claire, Patricia Stoner of Spring Brook, and Marlys (Larry Erickson) Hugdahl of Eau Claire and brother-in-law, Terry (Kay) Moe Hayward; niece, Kari (Jesse Kussow) Moe of Steamboat Springs, CO; and four nephews, Jason Stoner and Bradley Hugdahl both of Eau Claire, Kyle Hugdahl of North Carolina, and David (Megan) Moe of Seattle, WA; and many cousins.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Sheldon and Duane Stoner.\r\nJuel truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by them, as well as relatives and friends. He was well liked by all who knew him.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary F. Sahs and Pastor Roger Churness officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside honors. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St., Eau Claire. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving his family.
