Karl Nygaard, 82, of Eau Claire died Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at Dove Healthcare and Rehabilitation. He was born in Solvorm, Norway on May 4, 1924, the son of Ludvig and Dorthea (Walaker) Nygaard.\r\nHe moved to Eau Claire from Norway in 1950 and worked for his brother Alf Nygaard as a carpenter and cabinet maker building homes. In 1970 Karl went on his own as Karl Nygaard Homebuilders until his retirement in 1978\r\nKarl married Vila I. Knutson on May 30, 1953, at Colfax Lutheran Church in Colfax, WI.\r\nThey were charter members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.\r\nKarl is survived by his wife, Vila; son, Peter of Medford; three sisters, Ingeborg Hendricksbo of Evindvik, Norway, Ragnild (Olav) Hovelen of Gaupne, Norway, and Lev (Ivar) Menes of Leikanger, Norway; four sisters-in-law, Fredia Nygaard, Inger Nygaard, and Kjellaug Nygaard all of Norway, and Goldie Nygaard of Sterling, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Lars, Alf, Olaf, Per, and Dagnar; brother-in-law, Arthur Hendricksbo; and sister-in-law, Lucille Nygaard.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Mary L. Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E.
