Dr. Karl E. Walter, 91, left this earth to be reunited with his beloved Jeanne on January 30, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Karl was born in Appleton, WI, on Friday, July 13, 1923, a son of Edgar and Ancilla (Rossmeissl) Walter. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and was called back into the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a Captain from 1949 to 1969. Karl married Jeanne E. Lund on September 10, 1949, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in Eau Claire, where they became lifelong members. He was a very loving husband, father and "great" grandpa, in addition to being a "father figure" and mentor to many. Karl had an incredible wit, sense of humor and adventure for life, and an unselfish willingness to be there for others without hesitation. Dr. Karl was a physician and surgeon in Eau Claire, also serving a term as Eau Claire County Coroner in the mid 1950's. He retired from his medical practice in 1985. He was also Chairman of the Board of the former Walter's Brewery. Even after retirement, Karl continued to be involved with the hospital and nursing homes in the areas. Karl was a member of the AMA, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 53, NRA and Private Pilot's Association, to name a few. He enjoyed flying, snowmobiling, trapshooting, hunting out West and Canadian fishing trips which he did well into his 80's, clock fixing, "rikki-ticking", "farming it", cribbage and poker, classical music and his canine companions. Karl is survived by his children, Barbara (Paul) Moldenhauer, Karl Walter, Mary (Stephen) Selz, Margaret (Mark) Stolp, Anne Marie Walter, Kristine (Douglas) Robertson, Martha (Lee) Jacobs, Martin (Amanda) Walter and Monica (Robert) Kaner; grandchildren, Sean (Bridget), Christopher, Teresa (Matt), Matthew (Mollie), Katie, Mark (Sarah), Rebecka (Matt), Rachelle (Ryan), Martha, Martin, Margaret, Monica, Christina, Joshua, Andrew, Nathan, David, Elizabeth (Beau), Tyler, Zephaniah, Shayna, Kyle and Natalie; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Vonnie) and sister, Monica Gagnon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, of 65 years; three sisters, Mary, Rose and Barbara; two brothers, George and John; and two grandchildren, Adam Stolp and Stephanie Selz.
