Katherine "Kay" A. McQuillan, age 89, of Eau Claire, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire. Kay was born to Timothy and Hazel (McConnell) Sullivan on August 29, 1923, in Superior, WI. She attended grade school and high school at the Cathedral of Christ the King, graduating in 1941. She lived briefly in Southern California making B24 Bombers. She later returned to Eau Claire where she became a Laboratory Technician. She married Marshall McQuillan on August 2, 1948, in Superior WI, at the Cathedral of Christ the King. They were married 58 years until Marshall's death in 2006. Kay worked fulltime as a laboratory technician at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, taking several years off to start her family. After her retirement she enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, and going on Sunday road trips with her husband. Fierce in the protection of her children, calm in crises, rigorously involved in her children and grandchildren's lives, and most hard-working. "She was a perfect mother." Kay is survived by her children, Michael (Sue) McQuillan of Humbird, WI, Susan McQuillan of St. Paul, Patricia McQuillan of Eau Claire, and Kevin McQuillan of Golden Valley, MN; grandchildren, Brianna (Brock) Waltz, Christopher McQuillan, Dan McQuillan and Tess McQuillan; great-grandson, Landon; and daughter-in-law, Laura McQuillan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall; and sons, James, John and Brian; as well as her siblings, Brice Sullivan and MaryJo Rauscher. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012, in the Father Christopher Chapel at Sacred Heart Hospital, 900 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, with Monsignor Edmund Klimek and father John Schultz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior the Mass. Interment will be held in the spring in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Eau Claire.
