Obituary

\r\nKathrin "Katie" M. Gilbertson, 68, of Eau Claire, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN after complications following surgery for lung cancer.Katie was born on August 28, 1942, to Maurice and Lillie (Dalhaug) Beaumont in Meeker County, MN. She attended John Ireland Catholic School in St. Peter, MN through 8th grade, and then graduated from St. Peter High School. She also attended Mankato State College. Katie married Ralph Gilbertson on June 15, 1963, in St. Peter, MN.Katie and Ralph moved to Eau Claire in 1966. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she would often lector. Katie also was an active volunteer for Sacred Heart Hospital, Triniteam, and many other organizations. She enjoyed weaving, knitting, and sewing, as well as gardening. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Katie will be remembered as a caring and compassionate person who touched the lives of those she knew. She was an amazing wife, mother, friend, and woman. \r\nKatie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ralph of Eau Claire; children, Anne (Juan) Foegen of Ames, IA, Mark (Valerie) Gilbertson of Altoona, David Gilbertson of Eleva, and Sue (Drew) Boxrud of St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren, Hank Gilbertson, Emily and AJ Foegen; mother, Lillie Beaumont of Lake City, MN; sisters, Elizabeth (Tim) Frawley of Bullard, TX, and Patricia (LeRoy) Swenson of Red Wing, MN; brother Mike (Karen) Beaumont of Callahan, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her father, Maurice; brother, Maurice Archibald; and sister-in-law, Carol Beaumont.\r\nVisitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire.\r\nA Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave., Eau Claire, with Father Eugene A. Klink officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery - Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, Highway 53 and Frontage Road, Eau Claire.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be designated for lung cancer research at Mayo Clinic.
