Obituary

KENNETH V. FJELSTAD, 66, of 1433 Altoona Ave., Eau Claire, died Saturday, February 24, 2001 at Luther Hospital. He was born on June 2, 1934, in Eau Claire to Helmer and Gladys (Sorenson) Fjelstad. Kenneth attended Eau Claire Senior High School. He married Racheal E. Drung at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on September 22, 1956. \r\nHe served in the 8th Army, 55th Artillery Unit during the Korean Conflict for 16 months, 16 days, until his honorable discharge in 1953.\r\nKenneth worked at Pope and Talbot with the yard crew for over fifteen years and served as a Union steward there. He was a welder in maintenance for 18 years at Uniroyal until retiring in 1988.\r\nHe was a member of First Lutheran Church and V.F.W. Post #305.\r\nSurvivors include his daughter, Paula (Todd) Fjelstad-Hebert; a grandson, Jeremy Fjelstad; two brothers, LaVerne and Donald, all of Eau Claire; sister, Irene Schouviller of Cold Springs, MN; brother-in-law, Donald (Dorothy) Mayer of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nKenneth was preceded in death by his wife Racheal in 1966; three sisters, Edna and Beverly Fjelstad, and June Peterson; and two brothers, Clifford and Merle.\r\nFuneral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery where VFW Post 305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday until time of services at the Church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
