Kenneth E. Heacox, Sr, 85 of Eau Claire, WI, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Clairemont Nursing Home from complications following brain surgery. Ken was born Nov. 30th, 1927 in Red Wing MN, to Emery and Katherine (Huber) Heacox. Ken attended his first five years of school in Hastings, MN before moving to Beldenville, WI where he finished grade school. Ken then attended Ellsworth High School where he played basketball and graduated in 1945. After graduation Ken enlisted in the Navy where he played football and softball while working at the Pentagon. When he returned from the Navy Ken worked with his folks on their farm. Ken married Colleen Washkuhn on August 19, 1949 at the St. Paul's E&R Church in Ellsworth, WI. Five children came from that union, also, seven grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Ken attended the Wisconsin State Teachers College in Eau Claire while working full time at the Paper Mill for four years. Upon graduation he took a job with Dow Chemical as an engineer in the oil field. He cemented and fracced oil wells for 17 years in over a half dozen states. Moving over 13 times throughout those years, Ken and Colleen moved back to Eau Claire in 1972 where Ken worked for the city in Parks and Recreation, retiring in 1990. Ken and Colleen enjoyed many trips during their retirement; the most enjoyable was the trip to Alaska with their daughter Betsy and her husband John. Heacox Jr. (Linda) of Corry, PA; Son Peter G. Heacox Sr. (Barb) of Eau Claire, WI; Daughter Christine A. Heacox of Eau Claire, WI; Grandsons Chad A. Heacox (Jamey) of Louisville, OH; Thane Jeffrey Heacox (Summer) of Clarendon, PA; Peter G. Heacox Jr. of Denver, CO; Erik D. Heacox (Susan) of Eau Claire, WI; Kelly J. Heacox of Vernal, UT; Tyler J Heacox (Morgan) of Eau Claire, WI; Samuel K. Heacox (McKenzie) of Eau Claire, WI; Great-grandchildren Casey Heacox, Jenna Heacox, Izabelle "Izzy" Heacox, Ashley Strickland, and Graesyn Heacox. He is also survived by a brother Gary (Sue) Heacox of Cross Lake, MN and his three children, Julie (Randy) Brickner, Ellsworth,WI, Bob (Joanie) Heacox, Eau Claire, WI and Mary Jo (LeAllan) Huppert, Ellsworth, WI. Visitation will be Tuesday at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral & Cremation Services, 814 First Avenue Eau Claire, WI 54703 from 4:00 - 7:00. The funeral will be on Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 West Grand Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54703 with visitation in the Chapel from 10:00 - 11:00 and the funeral at 11:00. A luncheon will follow the service in the church basement. In lieu of flowers please address all Memorials to Grace Lutheran Church, 202 West Grand Avenue, Eau Claire, WI, 54703.
