Obituary

KENNETH E. MAYER, 83, of Eau Claire died Friday, February 6, 2004 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born in the town of Washington, Eau Claire County on October 4, 1920, the son of George and Ina (Barron) Mayer. \r\nHe entered the U.S. Navy during World War II in April 1944 and served in the Pacific Theater until his honorably discharge in May 1946. Kenneth married Margaret E. Fox on January 16, 1949 at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. \r\nHe was employed at Uniroyal Tire Company for over 18 years, Al's Mobil Service for 20 years and was a school crossing guard at the intersection of Golf Road and Fairfax Street for 4 years.\r\nHe was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church where he ushered for many years and a member of Moose Lodge #1408, and V.F.W. Post #305.\r\nSurvivors include his six children, Nancy Mayer of Sparta, Mary Dicke of Hudson, Daniel (Donna) Mayer of Blair, Carol (Michael) Pickerign of Eau Galle, Rick Mayer and Deborah Mayer of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren, Greg (Sherry) Prochnow, Jason (Kelly) Mayer, Ryan Mayer, Jennifer (Joel) Fosburgh, Larry Pickerign, Angela Dicke and Marie Dicke; four great grandchildren, Tyler Kelton, Zach Mayer, Sam Mayer and Isabelle Pickerign; brother, Darold of Eau Claire; three sisters, Ione (Harold) Freid of Eau Claire, Edna (Harland) Carlson of Lake Wissota and Arvilla Michur of Thorp; brother-in-law, John (Melba) Fox of Elk Mound; three sisters-in-law, Florence (Benny) Hayden, Lois Fox and Carol Mayer all of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 1998; his parents; two brothers, Arnold and Roger; and sister, Lila Alice.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2004 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor David J. Irgens officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington where V.F.W. Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints in our hearts and we are never ever the same. Thanks, Dad!
