L. Marie Hanke, 79, of Eau Claire died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on March 18, 1927, the daughter of Ferdinand and Clara (Singerhouse) Neubauer. She graduated from Menomonie High School with the class of 1944.\r\nMarie married Lawrence A. "Hank" Hanke on October 14, 1947 in Eau Claire at Olivet Evangelical Church. Their daughter Terrie was born in 1951.\r\nThey owned and operated Northside Shell for many years. She worked as a teacher's aide for handicapped children for the Eau Claire Board of Education, retiring from Putnam Heights Elementary in 1992.\r\nShe was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Eau Claire Women of the Moose Lodge #1408. She had been a member of Olivet Evangelical, Grace Lutheran and then Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and served on the Board of Deacons. Marie served as secretary helping to organize her Menomonie High School reunions and was a volunteer for many years at the Eau Claire election polls\r\nShe was a local sports fan and supporter of her relatives and friends over three generations. Marie served as a caddy and fan for her daughter Terrie during her golf competitions, and followed North High Huskies golf and basketball teams Terrie coached. \r\nMarie enjoyed helping Hank with remodeling their cabin at Moose Ear Lake near Chetek where they loved to fish. She did a lot with her lawn landscaping and working in her gardens where she was known for her strawberries, Iris and other flowers. She was fond of her cat, "Snickers" and her grand cats, "Koko", "Sammy", and "Blujeans".\r\nSurvivors include her daughter, Terrie Hanke of Eau Claire; sister, Maxine Anderson of Wausau; sister-in-law, Mable Stanford of Chetek; nieces and nephews including, Glen (Barb) Neubauer, Duane Neubauer, Kathie Cole, Phyllis (John) Goff, Carol Stanford, Malcolm (Joanne) Sneen, Ted (Anna Marie) Govin, Lila (Bob) Gorton; numerous great nieces and nephews; and her four godchildren, Douglas (Ann) Larson, Barbara (David) Chung, Judy Edwardsen and Anne Beauchamp.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hank in 2004; three brothers, Lyle, Arthur and Martin Neubauer; two sisters, Edna Govin and Eva Sneen Olson; and her cat, "Simon".\r\nA Celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with Pastor Ned S. Lenhart officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.\r\n
