LaMoine E. Heimstead, age 91, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Eau Claire, died peacefully on February 1, 2015, with his family by his side, under the care of Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, FL. He was born to Frank and Mabel (Lee) Heimstead in Eau Claire on November 26, 1923. After graduating from Eau Claire Senior High in 1941, he joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country during WWII, until his Honorable Discharge. LaMoine married Betty Kohlhepp in 1946, and they raised three children in Eau Claire. He later married Mavis Lewis in 1968. LaMoine worked for Home Heating Inc. in Eau Claire for 35 years. After his retirement in 1980, he started Heimstead's Strawberries. He was also a Bee Keeper, as well as a fruits and vegetable farmer, and was instrumental in starting the Farmers Market in Eau Claire. LaMoine served on the Eau Claire Wesleyan Church Board and the Oaks IV Condominium Board in Port Charlotte, FL. Together, LaMoine and Mavis enjoyed gardening, fishing and traveling, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by many. LaMoine is survived by his wife, Mavis; children, Susan Golden, Debra (Jeffrey) Jurgensen, Paul Heimstead, Connie (Dale) Schaefer, and Mark (Elizabeth) Lewis; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Keisha) Smieja, Michelle (Jon) Rutoski, Michael Golden, Ryan (Heather) Golden, Zachary Dechaine, Evan Dechaine, Colin Dechaine, Isaac Lewis and Eric Lewis; great-grandchildren, Justin Smieja, Madison Smieja, Emily Rutoski, Jacob Rutoski, Brady Golden, Blake Golden and Marlie Lewis; and sister, Irene Heimstead; along with cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, James, Douglas and William. Funeral Service will be at 11AM on Monday, February 9, 2015, at Eau Claire Wesleyan Church, 2405 Keith St. Eau Claire, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at church. Pastor Dwayne Winterberg will be officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire with Military Honors conducted by the Eau Claire American Legion Post #53.
